I remember there was a time when I would rather stick a fork in my eye than watch golf.  It was just really hard to get.  I'd sit down for a few minutes, watch grown men hit a tiny ball, walk, hit a tiny ball, walk then putt it in a hole.  I could take about five minutes of it before I'd turn it off.  Now, as the "Masters" tournament is about to begin, I am amazed at how excited I am to start watching it.

I still don't watch golf religiously every weekend but I can tell you this, the four major tournaments are more than worth your effort.  Now, I don't expect you to watch all the coverage for the entire four days of play. Really, all you have to do as a newcomer is watch a little Saturday afternoon.  Get a feel for the game and the players who are at the top of the leader board.  And listen to the story lines that are developing.

There is always a good  story at the Masters.  And really, you cant find a better backdrop to play it on.  The course at Augusta is absolutely breath taking.

It isn't fast paced by any stretch of the imagination.  And I think you do have to kind of get into the pace of it. But in reality, that is also the reason it can be so exciting. When your watching a man working  for something that he has spent his whole life in pursuit of, knowing he is so close to achieving it and trying so hard to not choke up his lead. Or maybe he has come close so many times and something always goes wrong for him and you hope that this will finally be his day.  His redemption. You cant help but feel for him, on many levels identify with him, feel all the emotion he is feeling.

I cant guarantee who will win this year, but I can guarantee a great story.  I think the only thing that all fans of golf and especially the major tournaments never want is a blow out.  That can be a little bit disappointing unless of course its Tiger Woods, because when he is that good, it really can be unbelievable.

Give it a try, maybe you will just not get it. That's fine with me. But if on the other hand, you do "get it". I can promise it will be something you look forward to every Spring. And who cant use a few more things to look forward to?  Right?  Lastly, though I don't have him in my pool, GO Lefty!  By Sunday you will know who I mean.

God Bless.
