My son has ADHD and as a result, he never sits down and talks a mile a minute most of the time. At home, it’s really no big deal and we’re all used to it. We focus on the positive traits that come with the ADHD instead of getting overly concerned about the minor issues that comes with it. When we visit friends or well-meaning family members though, they all seem to want to tell me how to “parent” him. They say things like “he wouldn’t be so hyper if you eliminated all sugar and gluten from his diet”; or “he could calm down if you put him on medication” – seems everyone is a doctor when it comes to what we should do for the boy with ADHD! We don’t think he is “broken” and needs to be “fixed” – but everyone else seems to and it sure makes visiting friends and family difficult sometimes. I try to change the subject, but people are really insistent that they have all the answers. How do other families deal with this?

The "Daily Dilemma" on the Sean and Richie Show is featured every weekday morning at 6:40am. We and the listeners take on someone's problems and try to offer different perspectives. Now, these don't have to be huge problems- it could just be something bothering you or a friend, or it could be some little thing you and another just can't agree on. If you have a dilemma to share we'd love to hear it just e-mail us here at the show.
