It seems like a strange question since I've lived here my whole life but have you ever really thought about it? Where are the borders of the term "Capital Region/Capital District?"

Matty posted a blog asking what people consider "Upstate New York" since it always seems so heavily debated. It got me thinking though, when you refer to the Capital Region, what are you actually referring to?

Is it just Albany/Schenectady/Troy? How far North do I go until I'm not in the Capital Region anymore? Lake George- is that in the Capital Region? How about West to Amsterdam? Especially with the change in area code, it's not like we can say everything in the 518 is the Capital Region because soon that's not all we're going to have.

If you look it up on Wikipedia (yes, there's actually an article for it), the Capital Region "refers to the metropolitan area surrounding Albany," but how far does that go in each direction? Wikipedia says that includes Albany County, Schenectady County, Saratoga County, and Rensselaer County but sometimes may include peripheral areas like Columbia, Greene, Montgomery, Schoharie, Fulton, Warren and Washington counties. That didn't answer anything! What do you think?
