This past weekend, we met up with some friends and took Caden, Lucy and Cee Cee  to the Schenectady Museum & Planetarium!  We had such a great time!  I feel like we have a little hidden treasure right here in the Capital Region!  This was such a cute museum to take the kids to.  And what a way to start off Spring with their Butterfly Showcase!  Amazing!

There is so much to do and learn here.  There are exhibits for all ages!  I even had a great time!  Here is our trip in Pictures.

First, we went into the Butterfly House.  Butterflies all over the place, flying around, sitting on the flowers, eating the fruit and sometimes even LANDING on you!!  We saw a couple people with butterflies on their heads!  The kids thought that was the funniest thing ever!

Then we found the 3D room!  There were shapes on the wall, which is cool in itself, but then when you put the glasses on…there they are in 3D!    I’m not sure if the kids understood it, but they loved the glasses!

Then we went on to the Conserving Energy exhibit (one of my favorites)!!  The kids learned all about how to save energy in each room of the house!  They even learned the importance of green energy and how it works!  These guys liked the wind turbine the most!!

We then hit the “Perspective Window” and got to trace our hands on the board!  After you draw you look through the lens and…well, I don’t really want to ruin the surprise for you but it was one of our favorite exhibits!

And who knew basketball could teach you a thing or 2 about science!  I’m not sure Caden really understood this lesson in Perspective, but he sure loved shooting the basektball!

The Shadow room was another huge it!  You went in, leaned against a white wall and when the lights went off…your shadow was saved on the wall.  I am sure this explanation is rivoting, but we had more fun just making crazy poses!  I wish I could have taken pics in this exhibit, but it was too dark!!

Here are a couple pictures of other exhibits the kids loved:

And then at the end, if you were a good boy…you could pick out a butterfly ball to take home!

All in all this was so much fun for all of us!  It’s a great way to spend a couple hours, especially when it’s still too cold too outside!  I highly recommend the Museum…and as a bonus, don’t forget to print out this coupon for $1 off per person!!  Here is a link to the museum for all the prices and directions!

Have fun!!
