What Is A Parrothead? Parrot Head Festival Prep
As we prepare for the annual Parrot Head festival, several people have actually asked me to define the meaning of ‘Parrothead.’ Well, here you go!
Plain and simple, a ‘Parrothead’ is a Jimmy Buffett fan! As Country Music has continued to embrace the sounds of the Caribbean in music heard by Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson, and Zac Brown Band, more and more ‘Parrotheads’ are popping up around the nation, and these ‘fun’ people are not just exclusive to Buffett’s music. By the way, the word can be spelled either way- Parrot Head or Parrothead.
According to Urbandictionary.com: “A Parrothead is a fan of Jimmy Buffett (there is no other meaning). The typical parrothead is pictured to wear a Hawaiian shirt, flip-flops, and other tropical attire, and to enjoy drinking margaritas on the beach. Parrotheads often decorate their homes in tropical motifs. In general the life of a parrothead is one of relaxation and being on a permanent mental vacation even while at work.”
If this sounds like the kind of life you’d like to start living, you can get a sample of the care-free, no worry, chill out attitude at the Parrot Head Festival at Saratoga County Fairgrounds on Saturday, June 22, from 2-8:30pm. Click here for more details and tickets.
