WGNA Day at the Saratoga Racecourse
Today is WGNA‘s and DePaula Chevrolet‘s day at the races up at Saratoga Racecourse. The station along with DePaula have sponsored the 4th race of the day. A WGNA tent will also be set up at the racecourse. Be sure to stop by and visit, especially if you would like to still donate to St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital.
If you are headed up to the track today, be sure to check out the weather today. It’s going to be a beautiful day — not too hot and not too humid, according to chief meterologist at WTEN 10, Steve Caporizzo. To figure out what to wear today, check out my blog on track attire.
Now, onto the fun part, whether you are going up to the track today or not. You can of course still take a look at the ponies in today’s Times Union and place your bets at OTB or by phoning a friend watching on sight. When it comes to betting on race horses, my first strategy takes me to the names. If there isn’t a name that jumps out at me, my second strategy will then take me to the trainers and/or jockeys. With that said, here are my picks for the first five races. Maybe you’ll learn something from my strategy, maybe you’ll curse me out at the end of the day if you follow it. Either way, it will still be fun!
1st race: I’m going with “Well Fashioned” (for obvious reasons if you know me) and “Red Dirt Girl” — both awesome names!
2nd race: My favorite jockey is Johnny Velasquez so I’m going to go with “Awesome Review.” Just sayin’.
3rd race: I like “Henny’s Hurricane.” Trained by Ken McPeek, I just have a weird feeling this horse is going to run well today.
4th race: “Radiohead!!!!” Since this is our WGNA/DePaula Chevrolet sponsored race, call it an omen. This horse must win this race!
5th race: “Bellamy Roadster” is a great bet! Despite being the obvious favorite, I like both the trainer and the jockey with this horse. I’d be surprised if this horse does not run well.
Hope to see you up at the track today! Be sure to stop down right after the 4th race — we’ll be in the winner’s circle or again, you can stop by our WGNA tent to make that donation!
