Van Corlaer Schoolkids Sing To Help Capital Region Cops (AUDIO)
Every year, the Sean and Richie Show and WGNA do our part to help to raise money for families of police officers killed in the line of duty. It’s a tragedy that keeps on happening no matter what we do, but we try very hard to ease the pain of these unfortunate people. To raise everyone’s spirits (as well as awareness), however, it always helps to include the fantastic voices and talents of area schoolchildren! That’s where the Reading, Writing, and Rhyming program came in. I took my trusty keyboard into Ms. of DeFilippo’s class at Van Corelaer Elementary School in Schenectady. In about one hour we wrote AND recorded this little ditty with the very willing and capable 2nd graders there. In fact, one the students had the tune already in mind to parody–“We Will Rock You”, by Queen. We changed it to “Cops Are Here To Help You”.
Area “Cops” at our “Blue Friday” event on 3/11/2011 at Denooyer Chevrolet, Wolf Road Albany.
Here is an encore performance in case you missed it or would like to download a copy for safekeeping. Just right-click and you’re home free!!
Doing this program continues to be the highlight of my week, and special thanks to Mrs. DeFilippo and everyone at the school (including the music teacher, Mrs. Baran, who came in and tinkled on the keys along with me!!) . Of course, special thanks to Hannaford Supermarkets for sponsoring the program!)
