Every once in a while this site pops up and someone tells me how they put in their last name and found out they were owed money. Sometimes it's a little bit and other times it's a large amount. The best part, it's totally legit. It is easy to check to see if New York State owes you money. All you have to do is log on to The Office of the New York State Comptroller. Then you simply type in your last name and see if your name is on the list. From there, you will follow directions about how to contact the office and receive your funds. In some cases, you may have to call the 800 number for further assistance.

This is a government program, so if you are owed anything and there is a claim in, you will receive the money. The beauty of it is if you don't see your name on the list, you can pretty much type in all the names you know and see if they are. If they are, you can tell them the good news.

Also, if you lived in other states besides New York, you can search here. I was fortunate to get a whopping $32 from a claim that was there from when I lived in Maine.

Good luck! Well, you won't need it. After all, if it's there, it's technically your money anyway.
