I think we could all find ways to argue with that old saying "money can't buy happiness" but now science is doing it for us. While it very well be true that in general having money doesn't make you happy and in fact can sometimes make you downright miserable there are specific ways in which it can.

It turns out that science has discovered some ways that money truly can buy you happiness. Here are a few of my favorites.

1. If you use it to go on vacation. It may seem obvious but it turns out that it is one of the best ways to use your money. It turns out that buying "things" can make you happy in the short term but when you use your money to buy "experiences" the effects are much more long term.

2. Use your money to buy yourself more free time. This one may require a little more of an investment but even if you hired someone to mow the lawn, plow the driveway, light housework or anything like that it CAN make you happier. Here is the catch, if you can't afford it the extra stress of paying for it can actually lead to you being more unhappy.

3. Picking up the check! Do you have a friend who drives you crazy because they always let you pick up the check? Well you can take heart in knowing that you are the one reaping the benefits. research has shown that picking up a check, even if it's just buying a friend a drink can make you instantly more happy.

So... who wants to buy me a drink? :)
