The 66th Annual Turkey Trot is just around the corner and if you've never participated, it's definitely something to consider.Troy's event each year gets bigger and bigger.  It began back in 1916 with just six runners signed up and is now one the largest and oldest turkey trots in the United States.

I participated in the Troy Turkey Trot two years ago and though I do not consider myself much of a runner, it was a TON of fun and made me feel much better about scarfing down too much food later in the day.  Even if you're less of a runner than me, there is always the one-mile Turkey Walk as well as the Grade School Mile for the kids.

The best part of Troy's race, though, is how much spirit certain people demonstrate. The year I ran there was one guy dressed like a big turkey while his buddy ran behind him dressed like a pilgrim, chasing him like he was going to shoot him.  So funny!

With that said, added this year there will be a costume contest.  Prizes will be awarded to individuals and groups for either the "Best Thanksgiving Day Costume" or "Best Non-Thanksgiving Costume." The Troy Record has more details.

Sign-up for this year's race(s) must be done before the event on Thanksgiving (Thursday, November 28)!  Registration closes in seven days.  Click here to register online and get all the particulars.
