Trace Adkins opened up about the first single off his upcoming album, Something's Going Onat a showcase in Nashville on Thursday (Feb. 2). The new track, titled "Watered Down," tells the story of a man who's beginning to wind down after living years of a hectic life and reflecting on his experiences -- a theme to which Adkins can relate.

"When I heard this song," Adkins says, "I was like, 'Well, that's my current state in a nutshell; that's where I'm at right now.'"

"Watered Down" features a sweet country melody that allows Adkins to show off the smoother side of his voice with lyrics such as "We still fly like gypsies / Just a little closer to the ground / And we still love our whiskey / But now it's just a little watered down / Yeah I'm still crazy / Now I'm just a little watered down."

"At some point, you face the reality that you have to temper your vices, you have to calm your ship down," Adkins adds, explaining that the man in his new song has lived his life much like the singer himself has. "And I'm still crazy, but I'm just going to temper it a little bit, and that's what this song said."

During his showcase, Adkins also performed a few notable tracks from throughout his career, including his debut single, "There's a Girl in Texas," and the No. 1 hit "Ladies Love Country Boys."

In addition to his new music, Adkins is also continuing to build up his acting resume: He recently made an appearance in the 2016 film Deepwater Horizon, starring Mark Wahlberg, playing a character who had to get a little rough with the famed actor. The country star will also star in the upcoming Dennis Quaid film I Can Only Imagine, which is based on the MercyMe hit of the same name; he'll be portraying the band's manager, Scott Brickell.

Something's Going On will be available on March 31; "Watered Down" will officially be hitting country radio on March 13. Adkins is currently on tour throughout the U.S. until August.
