While we face bitterly cold temperatures and Wind Chill Warnings in The Albany, New York area, Western New York has been under a Blizzard Warning and parts of the New York State Thruway remain closed.

As of the writing of this article, the New York State Thruway in Western New York is closed from Exit 55-Exit 61. Meanwhile, In Central New York I-81 is closed between Exit 31-Exit 45. Click here for updates.

According to Weather.com, "Blizzard warnings have been posted for Genesee, Erie and Wyoming Counties in western New York, including the Buffalo metro area. Snow will fall at the rate of at least 1-2 inches per hour. Over a foot of snow is likely within the 10-20 mile wide snowband. Local amounts over three feet are possible, particularly over the "Southtowns" of Buffalo. With frequent wind gusts from 30-40 mph, whiteout conditions will occur within this snowband, including a stretch of the NY Thruway from north of Dunkirk to Buffalo to near Batavia, with significant blowing and drifting snow."
