Thomas Rhett Goes Platinum, Hits No. 1 With ‘Die a Happy Man’

Thomas Rhett had a little something extra to celebrate this Christmas. The singer-songwriter's current single, "Die a Happy Man," hit No. 1, and has also been certified Platinum for selling a million copies.

The song is Rhett's fifth consecutive No. 1 hit. It comes from his sophomore album, Tangled Up, and its success is particularly sweet because the song is so personal. It was inspired by his relationship with his wife, Lauren, which started out as a friendship and blossomed into love before they ultimately ended up together, many years after meeting in the first grade.

“If I never get to see the Northern Lights / Or if I never get to see the Eiffel Tower at night / Oh, if all I got is your hand in my hand / Baby, I could die a happy man," Rhett sings on the track, which was certified Gold just recently, in November.

Lauren actually had a hand in helping shape the song. Rhett tells Taste of Country she’d been asking him to write a love song, and admits her stamp of approval is important to him in all of his musical endeavors.

“If she doesn’t think something is cool, I have to like really think it’s cool to still do it,” he says.

“I just think this song shows how me and Lauren love each other, and I hope this song is an encouragement to other married couples or people that are dating,” he adds.
