The Preakness Stakes, A Guide To Picking The Winner
The second leg of the Triple Crown Almost here! The 139th running of the Preakness Stakes will be run at Pimlico Race Course Saturday, that’s tomorrow!
I love horse racing, I never win….but I love it! I was doing some research and I think this year I totally have the winner! (Ha!) If I am going to have the tools to make my winning decision, so should you. Here some facts about the 10 horses in tomorrows race.
CALIFORNIA CHROME– The favorite!! Kentucky Derby winner!! But, California Chrome is being treated for a minor throat irritation. They are calling it a throat blister. His trainers say this will not affect his preparation for the Preakness.
Will you still pick him or try to find a long shot to come in?
BAYERN–Bob Baffert is looking for his sixth Preakness victory. He is also hoping that Bayern’s rider, Rosie Napravnik, makes history as the first female jockey to win the second leg of the Triple Crown!
Will you go the emotional route and bet on a history making race?
DYNAMIC IMPACT –John Oxley’s Dynamic Impact is taking it easy after arriving in Maryland. He is taking some laps around the track, and his trainers said he looks great. Dynamic Impact will start at post position one with Miguel Mena, who is making his own history with his first Preakness run!
Will you bet on the rookie?
GENERAL A ROD–General a Rod went out for practice early. So early, the fog was so thick no one could see him. His rider said he did great! His trainer refers to the horse as a fighter! I hope running in a clear setting works as well as the fog!
Bet on the word of the rider?
PABLO DEL MONTE– Another early morning fog runner! I see an exacta brewing!! Pablo Del Monte has been at the track since Wednesday. He’s got the lay of the land, had good preactices and will start in post position 9! Maybe he has an advantage, he’s been here a few days and relaxed and comfortable with his surroundings! I like it!
Bet on the relaxed horse?
KID CRUZ– The son of Lemon Drop Kid! I remember betting on Lemon Drop Kid! Love him! Kid Cruz has won his last 2 starts in stake races! That’s a good sign!
Bet on breeding? I do!
RIA ANTONIA –Ria Antonia is the #2 money making horse in the race behind California Chrome. She has Calvin Borel as her jockey and will start in post position six! This makes her a sure top 3, right? Here’s the shocker, she is 30 to 1!! A long shot with all these amazing facts? I think I smell an upset!!! Watch out for her!
Bet on the long shot for the upset?
RIDE ON CURLIN– Holding the far outside post position, Ride On Curlin will have to have a good strategy to win the race! After a tough run in the Derby, Ride On Curlin lost the race taking a gamble on pace. Tomorrow, the trainers have a strategy based on the pace of the race. With a new jockey, the plan might just work!! Lots to consider here!
Bet on lessons learned?
RING WEEKEND– Having to withdraw from the Derby due to a fever, Ring Weekend is ready to run at the Preakness! Trainers are happy with the progress of Ring Weekend, especially following great finishes in the last 2 runs! Second place in April in the Calder Derby!
Bet on the Comeback horse?
SOCIAL INCLUSION– This is only the 4th start for Social Inclusion, however he did set a track record at Gulfstream. He is the #2 favorite in the race. You will remember, the Derby presented us a winning trainer who set a record as the oldest trainer to win the Derby. Should Social Inclusion win, we will have another record as THIS trainer will also make history as the oldest trainer to win the Preakness! Lot’s riding on this horse!
Bet on a trainer record streak?
So, with all that said, what’s my pick? Bet $1 to win on every horse! $10 bet….BAM you’re a winner!
