I am a big proponent of adopting animals from shelters rather than getting them from breeders. If I can stand on my soap box for a second, it's because there are no uniform regulations for breeding and too many "backyard breeders" out there creating dogs with health problems that can significantly shorten their life. Every animal I've ever owned and my family has owned has been a rescue and I wouldn't trade any of them (3 dogs and 4 cats) for the world.

This poor pup wasn't supposed to make it. The people who adopted her were told that she would have a ton of health problems and that she would likely go deaf and blind. Unfortunately, a lot of her litter mates didn't make it or ended up deformed.

Please watch this video and think about adopting a shelter dog before you go to a breeder.
