Many other areas of New York have been in a drought since earlier this year, and now the Capital Region joins that list.

According to the Times Union, the National Weather Service says we are about 5 inches below our yearly rainfall total. Because of the drier conditions, the National Drought Mitigation Center says the Capital Region has officially '...entered into a moderate drought.'

What does this mean for you at this point? The Times Union article says there are no water restrictions at this time, but the Department of Environmental Conservation is encouraging residents to conserve water.

The good news is we have had a little more rain than other areas of New York this year, which have had more serious drought issues.

Could this lack if rainfall be a sign of plenty of winter precipitation to make of for it? We are dreading the snow, but maybe a bunch of it would be a good thing this year.
