The Batcave is more than just Bruce Wayne’s headquarters in his unending fight against the crime the clogs the streets of Gotham, it’s his special place. His sanctuary. It’s where he can go to get away from it all, though the sophisticated rig of surveillance equipment also gives him unprecedented, questionably ethical access to it all. In the comics, the Batcave was where Batman kept all of his souvenirs from past battles (shout out to the Giant Penny), and in the Christopher Nolan pictures, it was the Morgan Freeman-played Lucius Fox’s fortress of moral ambiguity. But for the upcoming crossover film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the newly minted Batfleck will get a cave all his own.

Ben Affleck’s Batcave, according to new photos exclusive to Entertainment Weekly, will be the character’s main refuge, seeing as he’s allowed his home of Wayne Manor to fall into disrepair. Where Nolan’s Batcave was a visually chilly, sparse space, director Zack Snyder has reimagined the Batcave as a more lush location; a literal cave, as opposed to a subterranean chamber. And what’s more, the new Batcave needs a new Alfred. Jeremy Irons has volunteered to be the delectably arch Brit filling the role, and a quote from Irons suggests that he’s going to play a larger part in the upcoming film: “Alfred is a lot more hands-on in our film than he has previously been... He’s a bit of a grease monkey, and he’s very involved in the decisions Bruce makes.” Watch your back, Michael Caine. You may have an indelible Cockney accent, but Irons’ Alfred is good with his hands. Take a look at the newly released images below.
