I am so excited to get down to Daytona for the first race of the new NASCAR season! It's almost my unofficial EARLY welcome to spring. This is about the time of year I start checking out the websites for the changes in cars and drivers for the year, try to get up to speed on all the changes that always take place. What I found today though is not a change I expected.
I'm starting a new feature here on WGNA.com. I want to begin featuring trends and inventions that only a millennial - a person born between 1982-2004, would truly understand and love. Or not. I'll let you guys decide.
As I watch this video over and over, because I just can't stop watching it, I hear John Lennon singing, "instant karma gonna get you." We all know hockey is a violent sport, checking and using the wall to take your opponent off the puck is fully encouraged and accepted. I am fine with that.
When you hear about a story like this, you often feel bad for the guy who maybe tripped, or even drunkenly stumbled, over a railing to fall into the crowd below. In this case, after watching the video you just think, "You stupid moron!"
A co-worker shared this video with me of the NASCAR Truck Race at Talladega this weekend. It is absolutely hysterical and I must say I am just a bit jealous that our American NASCAR announcers don't get quite as excited as these guys do.
It's funny, I know I have already thought of this myself and I'm sure most of us here in the Albany area have. Perhaps some would think it is just a joke or a cute story but to be honest I think there may very well be relevancy to it. I think the McKownille Fire Department may just be on to something.
Last week I was talking to one of the "youngins" here at the radio ranch and he had never heard of Steve Martin's song, "King Tut". After telling him all about it and singing it for him I got the idea to do "Throwback Thursday" and get a little nostalgic with some of my favorite memories growing up. Today I asked Jeff Levack which direction I should go with my throwback this week and he suggested, FOOTBALL.
As I sit here writing this, I just got done listening to Chad Knaus comment on everything from the events in Richmond on Saturday night, to the ongoing problem on Nascar's restart policies. I do not want to put words into his mouth but he seemed to say that maybe in the context of "Teamwork" if a teammate were to let another teammate pass him to get an extra point and propel himself into the "Chase" maybe that would be acceptable to NASCAR, however spinning your car to create a caution would not.
When you are at the top of your game people will attack you. We all know this is true. In sports if you are far and away the best in a certain time period people will grow to hate you. This is true of the Yankees, Tiger Woods, the Patriots, and yes, Jimmie Johnson.
I don't know if you have seen this video yet but it is has gone pretty viral. You know how celebrities and politicians will often throw the ceremonial "first pitch" at a baseball game. Well, in Korea they also like to have popular pretty actresses and athletes do the honors. I am glad they did.
