Great Time For A Late Winter Walk On The Albany Rail Trail
The weather is getting a little more bearable, so it is a great time to get outdoors. The Albany County Helderberg-Hudson Rail Trail travels along the old Delaware & Hudson (D&H) Railroad between the Port of Albany and Voorheesville. The paved path is full of families and dog walkers. People walk, run and ride bikes on the trail, so be aware!

A vital and historic piece of World War II history sits in her glory, restored and anchored in the waters of Albany's Hudson River.  The USS Slater DE 766 in fact, is the only ship of its kind to remain afloat in the entire USA.  But until recently, nobody talked about why one of the seats inside the ship is painted red, yet all others are painted black.  What's the seedy story behind the "re

Derek Jeter’s Hall of Fame Career Started as a Teenager in Albany
On Wednesday, one of the all-time great Yankees (and one of the all-time greats period) will finally get inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. How many of you remember way back in the day, when the great Derek Jeter had a nice little run playing ball right in our backyard...

4-Yr-Old in Albany Finds Loaded Gun, Fires Shot Thinking It’s a Toy
Wow. Just Wow. Imagine how horribly this could have turned out. On Thursday afternoon, a 4-year-old child found a handgun on an Albany street underneath a parked car, and according to the Albany Police the child actually fired a shot thinking that the loaded gun was just a toy.  Thankfully, no one was hurt but an incident like this is quite disturbing to say the least.

One Year Ago: When a ‘Coverall’ Wasn’t for Your Face
One year ago this week, my family got together for a surprisingly different night out; we went to a Bingo Hall in Albany.  I'm pretty sure my sister suggested it as a bit of joke, but it was one of those things that we all unanimously agreed would be a fun thing to do...

Delicious and Different: Lark St. Restaurant Week
The Center Square portion of Albany is home to unique architecture, interesting attractions and eccentric people, but many feel it's the fantastic food on Lark Street that is often underappreciated. Lark Street Restaurant Week starts on Friday October 23rd and runs thru Thursday October 29th.

Another Unsettling Albany Night Had Me Wondering, “What If?”
Honestly, my whole thought process has been screwed up for about a week now.  It started with the deplorable murder of George Floyd and it has continued every night since.  I can't wrap my head around anything I've been watching on the national news or witnessing here in Albany, my hometown. I'm seeing things I've never seen before on such an escalated level, I'm actually beginning to wonder if we

These Saints Don’t Care What The ‘Experts’ Think
During last nights Siena mens basketball game, the announcers repeatedly talked about how lousy the Siena Saints men were supposed to be this season.  It's kind of become the narrative when talking about this team, creating a Cinderella effect.  The so-called experts predicted them to finish last in the MAAC pre-season poll but here they are, two wins away from an improbable trip to NCAA March Mad

Overheard During Police Standoff On Lark Street Last Night
Around the time of 8pm last night, I noticed an unusually high presence of police activity outside of the building I live off of Lark Street in Albany.   I went downstairs to get a closer look and some of the conversations I overheard, left me scratching my head to say the least.
