Attorney General, Eric Schneiderman unveiled the results of a sting operation involving the illegal purchase of guns.  The operation yielded 10 cases statewide, with three Capital Region residents among defendants accused of improperly selling firearms.  David Cox of Stillwater, Michael Ferrara of Saratoga Springs, and John Malinowski of Waterford are accused of not performing federally-mandated background checks on buyers of guns.

Investigators visited gun shows and found dealers selling a variety of guns for hunting purposes to assault-style rifles.  The weapons were purchased by undercover agents.  When the agents went to purchase guns from the dealers, they specifically stated they would not pass a background check.  The agents still were able to purchase guns that included assault-style rifles as well as deer rifles and a shotgun.
