The Special Olympics of New York is rappelling off of the Crown Plaza Hotel in downtown Albany on August 17th 2012 to fundraise for the 51,000 athletes in New York. In order to rappel, participants are required to raise a minimum of 1,000 dollars through a fundraising website.

This is a great event for a great cause: I raised the money last year and survived "going over the edge" and fought gravity with some professional help. I couldn't find the video of my climb, but here is a video of another climb that took place in Texas so you can see people going over buildings:

The event is 8 hours long even though the rappelling process takes about half an hour. Professionals help set you up and monitor you as you rappel. To sign up for the event you can email Erin McCartan at emccartan@nyso.org or visit the facebook page or event website.
