As they continue to attempt company cutbacks, we'll soon lose another Sears department store here in the Capital Region.

Honestly, I saw this coming. As one of the anchor stores at Viaport Rotterdam, formerly the Rotterdam Square Mall, Sears will be closing it's doors officially in early August according to a spokesman.

As stated within the Times Union article, Howard Reifs in an emailed statement said,

"Store closures are part of a series of actions we're taking to reduce on-going expenses, adjust our asset base, and accelerate the transformation of our business model."

The amount of employees that work at the existing store is unknown, but some will receive a severance package with others having the options to apply at other local Sears and Kmart stores.

This is the only Sears being affected by the cutbacks locally.
