It was on this day back in 1977 that we lost the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley. Elvis was one of the most influential music stars of all time. When I was younger there was not only alot of country music played in my house but also alot of old time Rock and Roll, especially Elvis! I recall quite a few Elvis albums in my parents vinyl collection.

Elvis was not only influential to rock music but of course to country music as well. Alot of what was considered Rock back in the day would probably be considered much more country today.

Many rock and country artists have covered Elvis tunes in the past and here I give you my Top 5 favorites.

DWIGHT YOAKAM--LITTLE SISTER

Elvis' 1961 hit became a top 10 single for Dwight in 1987 from his Hillbilly Deluxe album

TRAVIS TRITT--T-R-O-U-B-L-E

One of those songs that I didn't realize was actually a cover until years after it was a single. I always considered this a Travis Tritt song until I was informed Elvis first made this famous back in 1975.

DWIGHT YOAKAM--SUSPICIOUS MINDS

Dwight makes a second appearance on this countdown. His version of Elvis' #1 hit wasn't nearly as successful, but it's such a great version. Dwight does Elvis justice in this one!

CHEAP TRICK--DON'T BE CRUEL

Elvis' biggest selling single of all time has been recorded by many, this one is my personal favorite. Cheap Trick took this to #4 on the Billboard charts in the late 80's

ZZ TOP--VIVA LAS VEGAS

One of Elvis' most recognized tunes. When think Las Vegas, you start singing the chorus to this one! The Boys in ZZ Top rock it like only they know how.

There are many more great versions of Elvis classics out there. Do you agree with my list or do you have a favorite of your own?
