I'm a runner. At least, I like to tell myself I am. I've run a half-marathon before but even running for that distance seemed incredible to me. I don't know if I could ever complete 26.2miles. The Boston Marathon is a completely different monster and the people who take part in that aren't human.

This morning at around 8:50AM the first people took off for the annual Boston Marathon. According to USA Today, Kenya’s Geoffrey Kirui won the 121st Boston Marathon this morning finishing in about 2 hours.

According to CBS6, there's a Mechanicville man who qualified, Patrick Culligan. He said the 2013 Boston Marathon would be his last but here he is, 57 years old, 33 marathons total under his belt and this morning he started his 13th time at this course. I've been following his pace and at the time I'm writing this (25K completed), he's been sticking with an under 9:00min mile which is incredibly impressive! I wish his the best, keep on running Patrick!

* UPDATE! Patrick finished in 3:53 with an average 8:55min/mile! Great job Patrick!

The saddest news from the 121st Boston Marathon is that it will be world famous runner Meb's last. A four-time Olympian just said he's ready to retire from competitive racing. He plans on running one more New York run before announcing his retirement. Though, I didn't come anywhere near his time, when I ran the Rock 'N Roll Las Vegas Half-Marathon this past November, he ran as well and I had the chance to meet him at the expo beforehand. He was incredibly nice and to runners, he's a legend! Congrats to all of the finishers of the Boston Marathon, it's an incredible feat and I'm so happy someone local was able to take part!
