Richie Gets Nasty Email About Living in Upstate NY

This one really made my day, and I don’t mean that in a good way.  I shall leave the sender’s name out to protect the innocent, although I really shouldn’t

A friend of mine from Long Island who I haven’t talked to in years must have found out that I work on ‘GNA and sent me an email with the following message (this is an excerpt)

…”So Richie, it’s been years!  Been wondering how you’ve been and then I found out that you are on radio in Albany.  I can understand you wanting to be on the air.  That’s cool.  But what the F&^K possessed you to live upstate all of these years and not come back to L.I.?   Upstate is a cultural freekin’ wasteland!  Talk about nothing to do!  I was up there within the past several years and saw it for myself.  The favorite word up there must be “Mooooooo!”.  I would mooove out immediately after about an hour! …… OK, I’m bustin’ on ya but I actually do feel that way!…..”

Amazing, huh? What do you say to something like that? I know he’s half kidding, but I’ve always felt that deep inside every joke is a grain of truth.

I’d like to respond somehow, but I’d love to show him an army of supporters who love living up here.

If this raises the hair on the back of YOUR neck, leave me your comments below.  What do you LOVE about Upstate NY and hate about …well, everything south of the Tappan Zee?

Thanks.  Look forward to your help!  Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m turning off the computer and we’re taking a drive up to gorgeous Lake George tonite.  How’s that for starters?
