Reba McEntire Celebrating Her 40th Opry Anniversary With Grand Return

Reba McEntire is coming up on a career milestone, and she’s found the perfect way to celebrate. The legendary country star made her debut on the Grand Ole Opry stage on Sept, 17, 1977, and she’ll commemorating the 40 year anniversary in 2017 with a special performance almost to the day, on Sept. 22.

McEntire made the exciting announcement via a Facebook video directed at her fans, in which she tells the story of how she was originally supposed to sing two songs the night she debuted at the Opry, but was bumped down to one when Dolly Parton showed up. She wasn’t too put off by the last-minute change.

“I said ‘ok she can take both of them, can I meet her?!'” McEntire recalls. “That was a big event in my life because mama and daddy always listened to the Grand Ole Opry on the radio … and now here comes the anniversary 40 years later.”

The “Fancy” singer will perform during the Opry’s two shows that night, at 7PM and 9:30PM with legendary songwriter Bobby Bare and other TBA acts. Along with her biggest hits, McEntire will play songs off her latest album, the gospel release Sing it Now: Songs of Hope & Faith. The album shot to No. 1 after its 2017 release not only on Billbaord’s Top Country Albums chart, but also the Christian Albums chart, bringing her total number of No. 1 albums to 13.

“This album has been a huge gift to me. It has helped heal my heart and has let me know I can move forward with faith and hope. I am so thankful to God for His guidance that lead to this moment,” McEntire says. “I pray that everyone who listens to these songs, receives exactly what the Holy Spirit wants them to receive. These CDs go out to my family, friends and fans remembering these songs from their growing up years and to those who are just beginning to sing along. We could all use more faith and hope. I sure do appreciate yours!”
