Rear View Mirror Clutter Leads To DWI

A lot of people hang stuff on their rear view mirror of their vehicle, but one Rensselaer man had a few too many.

Shawn R. Perez
East Greenbush Police Department

Those objects led to a traffic stop, and a DWI.

In a press release from the East Greenbush Police Department, 32-year-old Shawn R. Perez was allegedly driving a vehicle with so many toys hanging from the mirror, a police officer saw the clutter and pulled him over to warn him that about how dangerous this was.

When the officer started to tell Perez how these things obstruct forward and side view visibility, alcohol was detected. Perez was given a set of field sobriety tests. He was charged with DWI, Operating With Obstructed View and some other infractions. He’s due in East Greenbush Town Court in January.
