A precautionary lockout was in effect this morning at schools in the South Colonie School District.

Police notified school officials that there was a report of man carrying a machete on Sand Creek Road.

As a precaution, the schools in the South Colonie School District went into lockout protocol as the police continued to investigate this report.

The majority of the district schools held students indoors, while other schools that had children still arriving held those students on buses.

Extra staff and police officers were brought onto the school property as well to help with the situation.  After an hour, around 10 am, Staff and students were able to carry on with their day.

The school plans to continue the school day as a normal day.

We do not have any further information on the report that was made this morning, we will update you as the information becomes available.

UPDATED: Police released information that there was no machete - the person was carrying an umbrella.
