Places To Drop Off Needed Items For The Hilltown Victims [UPDATE]

It’s been almost two weeks since Tropical Storm Irene blasted through the Albany area and surrounding communities, and now with all the recent rains, things do not seem to be getting any better. In some cases, it’s getting worse.

In this blog, I’m going to focus on the victims of some of the hilltowns, like Berne, Knox and Westerlo, as well as Preston Hollow, Middleburgh and Schoharie.

The owner of The Lighting place in Colonie, Larry Verch, has helped set up a drop off point to collect much needed things for those victims. Here’s what they’re looking for – Rubber gloves, tooth brushes and tooth paste, detergents, deodorants, baby diapers and wipes, baby food and formula, medical supplies, dried and canned goods, mops and cleaning materials, bedding, blankets, clothing, dog and cat food and adult diapers. Another way you can help is by baking or cooking food to be distributed in those areas.

A few other businesses have also joined The Lighting place as drop off points. Here’s the list of places and addresses that you can go to to drop stuff off!

There has been one more way to help out. Through SCCAP - Schoharie County Community Action Program. They're at 795 East Main Street in Cobleskill. This is where you can mail a check for a donation. They also suggested donating a gas card, too.
