I did a blog about five Albany area day trips that you could take with your family and friends. It's kind of an economic strategy to get away at an affordable price. Then I did blogs about Albany's Pine Bush Preserve, Six Mile Waterworks, Five Rivers Environmental Center and The Crossings of Colonie. Now for the fifth day trip. It's the John Boyd Thacher Park in the Helderberg Mountains.

The overlook is a great place just to see for miles, and to see Albany and the surrounding areas at a different perspective. Bring a lunch and enjoy a picnic, then hike some of the trails, like the Indian Ladder Trail. You can also rent one of the pavilion areas for a gathering of friends or family. You might even be eye level with a bird in flight. By the way, Thacher Park isn't far from the Altamont Fairgrounds, where WGNA's Countryfest 2011 will be.

These day trips are just  great getaways that I think you'd enjoy. Even if you've been there already, it's always great to go back. Where are some other day trip places that you like to go? I may have to check them out.
