He's not all padded up and ready to tackle anyone on the field. Well, that might be wrong. he very well may want to tackle someone on the field. But, from the sidelines, Matt Patricia will probably just be yelling. Or at least it'll look that way.

Patricia is the defensive coordinator for the New England Patriots.

Maybe you've heard of them? I mean, they had that whole "deflate gate" thing and well, they're also headed back to the Super Bowl this Sunday, too. That's kind of a big deal.

So what's so special about Matt Patricia? He may just be the defensive coordinator to average fans but, for us, he's a local college graduate. He has a degree in aeronautical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

WTEN caught up with a couple people who were a part of Patricia's college past and they had quite a bit to say when it comes to how he got to where he is today.

He once turned down a six figure job maintaining nuclear submarines for a Division III college coaching position at Amherst College that paid $94,000 less.

“I may have [thought he was crazy],” former RPI football coach Joe King said with a laugh. “He was pretty sure what he wanted to do, and he had the support of people to enable him to do it.”
