I understand teaching children good values and morals from a very young age and you should start ASAP but when it comes to this, I think 5-years-old is a little young. What do you think?

I have to start this out by reminding you that I'm not a parent so maybe I'm missing something here but 5-years-old is a little young to be paying rent, right?

A woman in Georgia is being praised because she's making her 5-year-old daughter pay rent. I understand if you have an 18-year-old child who still lives at home and has a job, sure, makes sense to me. Her daughter gets $7 per week for allowance and $5 of it goes back to her mother for rent. As you can see in her Facebook post below,  she says that most people spend most of their paycheck so her daughter should learn that too. She says, "$1 for rent $1 for water $1 for electricity $1 for cable and $1 for food. The other $2 she gets to save or do what she wants with."

Granted, in reality, the mother is saving that $5 for her daughter's future so when she's 18-years-old, there will be $3,380 in that account for her. I get it, I think the principal of teaching her daughter young is brilliant but I feel like at 5-years-old, isn't that idea kind of lost on them. Maybe when her daughter's 9 or 10 but at 5, does she really understand what's happening yet? What do you think of this idea? Is it something you would try with your kid
