Olde Shaker Inn Closing After 21 Years

As a result of tough economic times, The Olde Shaker Inn, in Latham, is closing.

From a story on WTEN, the owner, Tom Wallace, stated that a recent spike in taxes put him over the edge. His business has not gotten any better since the recession. Increases in food prices are another factor that lead to his decision to close. If you're wondering about Wallace's taxes on the restaurant, it's nearly $17 thousand-A pretty good chunk of change. It took over two years for him to make his final decision to close.

I dined there a few times. Great food and very nice atmosphere. The Olde Shaker Inn will be missed. Don't you think it's sad when a great, local business has to close?
