Yes you are,  according to a  proposal from a legislator in Alaska by the name of Bob Lynn.  He wants members of the military under 21 to be able to drink and smoke in his state. According to Fox News, Mr Lynn basically says:

"Any soldier who braves military combat and risks their life for our country should be treated like an adult—in every sense of the word."

How do you feel about this one ?  Honestly, I'm with Mr. Lynn.  I  feel that  either you are an adult, or your not. No middle ground.   If we trust you enough to help protect our country, I'd say we consider you an adult.  You were responsible enough to say that you wanted a life of military service.  Another clue that you are pretty grown up in my eyes.

I had a working idea for a musical commentary on this.

I'm working on a parody of "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" (a classic!)

Lyrics

When Johnny goes  marching off to war we've made it clear

you can pick up a gun and shoot it son, but hey-no beer

you can take your shots in spring and fall we don't mean shots of  alcohol

it's a law that surely doesn't  make sense at all

Drinking is out it don't really matter what you  say

despite the fact that we know you'll do it anyway

you can serve your country yes it's true-but they'll be no bartender serving you

you can try to sue but all of your rights are gone

You can risk your lives from Lybia right to  Kandahar

God forbid we see you puffin a fat cigar

But If Alaskans get their way

soldiers can party nite and day

So when you come marching home

make sure your home's in NOME-

and then the coast is clear--

I can see your next beer from here!

(Like I said, it's a work in progress)
