We should be used to winter storms but it's a pretty big shock to the Albany area when they strike in October. Because of the nature of this storm and the time of year (still plenty of leaves on the trees) we may see widespread closings and power outages. This storm is expected to bring us high winds, and heavy wet snow - so be prepared! After the jump we have some links for closings, power outages, and road conditions.

National Grid has an interactive map to see if there is an outage in your neighborhood, and the expected time service should be restored.

New York State DOT / 511 has an interactive map as well to show if roads are closed due to accidents, weather conditions, and other issues.

We have closings listed right here on our site too, and they are updated in real time. Thankfully it's a weekend so there won't be school closings to worry about!

The last time we had a storm this severe in October it was in 1987 - and some are saying this one could be worse. Make sure to check on elderly neighbors and give them a hand shoveling - heavy, wet snow can be deadly.

One last tip - download our free app for Android and iPhone (also iPod Touch and iPad) radioPup is absolutely free and if the power is out you can still stream our radio station.
