New Yorkers may soon be able to take paid leave to care for a newborn or a sick loved one.According to a Channel 6 News story, there is a bill under consideration by the New York Senate that would grant up to 12 weeks of leave to care for a new baby or a family member who is ill. According to the story this would be funded by a payroll deduction of less than $1 a week.

As I have been going through the process of caring for a newborn the last 4 weeks, there has been a part of me that has wished I was able to stay home with him. Adjusting to life as a family of 4 is hard enough, and focusing on work while being exhausted can be daunting. Maybe this bill down the road will make the transition easier for new parents!
