Public School 244 in Flushing, Queens became the first elementary school in the U.S. to offer students a completely vegetarian menu!  Pretty crazy, right? But, it's been about six months, and the results are remarkable!

Some of the meals offered were black bean and cheddar quesadillas, veggie wraps, and organic roasted tofu! I can't imagine my children going for that! My kids, along with most American children, are hooked on chicken fingers, pizza, and anything with sugar!

Along with the healthy, meatless school lunches, kids were taught on a weekly basis about healthy eating. And, the school was stripped of vending machines with sugary, fatty snacks and drinks.

Since swapping out the food, the kids have longer attention spans and better academic scores. Plus, the overall number of overweight children enrolled at the school has dropped!

I feel like this might not be a bad idea!  It would be pretty healthy, and those healthy habits would spill over into the home lives of the children!  Plus, meat is often the most expensive part of the meal, so eliminating it might save cash too!

Do you think your kids would go for that?
