North Greenbush Police Warn About New Phone Scam
There is a new phone scam to warn you about.
North Greenbush police are warning residents about a new type of phone scam.
In latest development of phone scams, the person who calls claims to be from National Grid. The caller is apparently telling the person who answers that they owe National Grid a past due amount of money. Rather than take credit card information over the phone, this caller tries to set up a meeting place to recover the past due amount of money. Police think instead of meeting in person, the scammer is trying to get the victim to transfer the cash through a store’s electronic funds.
As a reminder, always be careful when giving anyone financial information over the phone. North Greenbush Police report the phone number involved in this scam is 1-888-840-9880. This scam was first reported last week.
Anyone with information or that has received a similar call, is asked to call North Greenbush police at (518) 283-5323.
