New York’s official state insect has been spotted back here in the great state. The nine-spotted ladybug had been gone from New York for the last 29 years.  It has been seen in other states during that same time period, however; it just recently made its way back.

The nine-spotted ladybug was found at a Long Island organic farm in July.  Scientists made their way to the farm and found even more of the insects.  John Losey, an enthomologist from Cornell University's Lost Ladybug Project talked about the discovery Monday, according to the Times Union.

Despite not knowing that this was New York's official insect, I also didn't know that the nine-spotted ladybug was also once the most common ladybug in the United States.  So think twice before you brush "a lady" to the side.  They are suppose to bring you some luck, you know.
