On the heels of International Women's Day, Mattel has released a series of new Barbie dolls to highlight empowering women. They are available now online and in stores. Mattel announced that they have released seventeen new dolls to honor historical and modern-day role models from around the world. The dolls released are pilot Amelia Earhart, NASA mathematician Katherine Johnson, artist Frida Kahlo, Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins, Olympic snowboarder Chloe Kim and boxer Nicola Adams.

In the past, Mattel has been under fire for creating an unrealistic view of women and beauty standards. They have been fighting this reputation on their view of body image as well. In response, they introduced three new body types in 2016 and twenty three new dolls with different skin tones, hairstyles outfits and flat feet so that Barbie can wear other shoes than just heels in 2015.
