There is a new law being introduced that would help make laundry pods safer for children. Although it won't keep teenagers from doing the "Tide Pod Challenge", it may deter them from trying. New York state legislation would make it law to have warning labels, child resistant packaging and uniform colors for laundry detergent pods. This comes after the trend of teenagers eating the pods.

The bright colors, squishy texture and the sweet smell can make the laundry pods irresistible to adults with dementia and young kids according to lawmakers. Now with the challenges done online, and the videos posted of teenagers eating the pods, the hopes is that this will be a deterrent.

According to News Channel 13, the American Association of Poison Control Centers claims that there have been one hundred fifty four calls to the poison centers so far this year with kids ingesting them with the challenge.
