Speedweeks is about to begin - leading up to the Daytona 500 on February 24.  But on the Sunday before the 500, several NASCAR drivers are expected to be racing the pubic in a different kind of race.

For the first time in its five year history, the Daytona Beach Half Marathon will be run as part of Speedweeks.  At 6:30 a.m. on a Sunday morning one week before the Daytona 500, runners and walkers at least 12 years old will be starting on the pit road at Daytona International Speedway.  They will leave the track and head to the streets of Daytona toward the oceanfront, on to the beach and then back to the track for the finish and victory lane.

Participants are expected to compete against some famous NASCAR drivers as Jimmie Johnson, Michael Waltrip, Kasey Kahne and Aric Almirola have filed entries.

The Daytona half marathon had previously been held in October.
