NASCAR driver Brian Vickers dropped into the Daytona International Speedway for a promotional visit last Wednesday.  The drop-in visit was literally just that as Vickers became the first driver in history to parachute into the speedway.

Vickers is a skydiving enthusiast and has made over 75 jumps over the last four years.  On Wednesday, he jumped from about 5,000 feet above the track and aimed for the speedway's tri-oval grassy area near the start-finish line.  It was raining and Vickers came to sliding stop with a tumble at the end.  Vickers said, "I've seen people crash worse in this area."

Vickers was originally slated to make this jump a year ago but health issues related to blood clots kept him from doing the jump and forced him to miss 25 races as well.  After 12 races this season, Vickers has four top ten finishes and is 28th in points.

Vickers drives for Red Bull Racing and it was the Red Bull Air Force that helped facilitate the jump at Daytona.
