My Kid’s Friend Is A Bad Influence! – Daily Dilemma [POLL]

The "Daily Dilemma" on the Sean and Richie Show is featured every weekday morning at 6:40am. We and the listeners take on someone's problems and try to offer different perspectives. Now, these don't have to be huge problems- it could just be something bothering you or a friend, or it could be some little thing you and another just can't agree on. Here is today's Daily Dilemma:

Recently my 12 year old son has come home with a new friend, "Nick". At first, I really liked him, but lately his behavior has not impressed me. Since becoming friends, my son has been in trouble in school..with "Nick" by his side, his grades are slipping and his behavior has become increasingly disrespectful. About a week ago, I told my son his is not allowed to hang out with "Nick" anymore. Since then he has not spoken to be, and he gives me one word answers when he does. Did I do the right thing? I don't believe he realizes at this age what I am doing is the best thing for him. Help! Will it get better? Is there something more I should do?
