This winter has been a cold one. With the cold temperatures comes a higher heat bill. Additional help is on the way for New Yorkers struggling to pay their heating bill.Governor Andrew Cuomo says that too many New Yorkers are having a hard time paying their heating bills. He said that those who need it can apply for a second emergency benefit through the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) available now.

For those New York state residents who are having a hard time paying their heat bill or facing the chance that their heat will be shut off, this emergency benefit can help. A household income of up to $53,500 per year can qualify.

There has been a forty percent increase in requests for heating assistance this winter compared to last year. Even if you have received HEAP, you can apply for additional funding through this program.
