Miss America Crowned

Miss Nebraska is Miss America.  Seventeen-year-old Teresa Scanlan will succeed 2010 Miss America Caressa Cameron of Virginia. Scanlan plans to attend law school and become a judge and politician.  Miss Arkansas, Alyse Eady was this year’s runner-up.

In case you didn’t know,  the 90th Anniversary of the Miss America pageant was held Saturday night, in Las Vegas.  In celebration of 90 years, the event also paid tribute to a number of the pageant’s previous winners.  One of the notable honorees, was actress Lee Meriwether.  She won the  title in 1955.

Actress and recording artist Vanessa Williams did not attend.  Williams was the first African-American woman to win the title.  However in 1984, she infamously surrendered her crown after a nude photo scandal.  She now co-stars on ABC’s “Desperate Housewives.”  I find it slightly ironic she is now on THAT show.
