State- Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver proposed legislation this week that would raise the state’s minimum hourly wage to $8.50 and index it to the annual rate of inflation.  The current state minimum wage is $7.25 an hour, which matches the federal minimum wage set back in 2009. The new legislation would also change wages for food service workers who receive tips at $5.86.

A Rensselaer family was reunited with their dog Eeyore, a 115-pound grey, Great Dane.  The dog was found tied to a tree in the woods behind Schenectady Community College on Friday night.  The owner, Wilson Diaz, had taken the dog to the college with him, where he takes culinary classes.  The dog got loose and unlike the usual, did not come back.  Officers from the Schenectady County SPCA found the dog.

An 11-year old boy from Albany is being held accountable for stealing $240 from the Alacrity Frame Workshop at 215 Lark Street.  The boy apparently befriended the store’s owner about two weeks ago and this past Wednesday, stayed with the owner until close.  While there, the boy supposedly unlocked all the store’s windows and then went back after hours.  The boy was arrested this past Saturday after a patrol officer saw him stealing from a car.

Greenfield- An elderly couple was found dead in their home Sunday from what appears to be a murder-suicide.  Saratoga County Sheriff’s were summoned after a 911 call was made regarding gun shots at the North Creek Mobile Village in Porters Corners.  86-year old Kenneth Sherman and his wife 83-year old Anna Wadsley Sherman were both pronounced dead at the scene.  Autopsies showed Sherman shot his wife first and then himself.  No evidence of motive was found.

Schenectady - Two men are being held for the fatal stabbing of a woman Monday morning in Schenectady.  The 43-year old woman was stabbed multiple times during an argument.  33-year old Perry Smith and 43-year old Sonya Hall, both of Schenectady were arrested and brought up on multiple charges.  The victim, whose identity has not been released, was found bleeding in the parking lot of a branch of Bank of America at 500 State Street.  She later died at Ellis Hospital.
