We all want our children to eat healthier especially when they are in school. Now there are more funds to help not only our kids but our local farmers get a boost too. I remember our school lunches and thought they were pretty healthy. But now that my son is in school, we realize that they could use more healthy choices. According to News Channel 13, the state will grant millions to support farm fresh food in schools across the state.

New York state announced the funding of one point five million dollars to ensure that farms from all over the state will supply local schools. This means eighteen farm-to-school programs will serve four hundred twenty thousand students.

The funding will be used to buy local vegetables and fruits and hire the right staff to train people to run the program. This year, the funding has been doubled to increase the amount of local fresh produce in our schools and supporting local farms.
