I had the pleasure of talking to an amazing local woman, with a heck of a sense of humor, that’s a breast cancer survivor, and has taken what she calls her cancer “adventure”, and turned it into something very positive and helpful for cancer patients and their families in the Albany area and surrounding communities.

Connie Bramer told me about something that she has created. It’s a non-profit organization called ‘Get Your Rack Back’, which has a goal to help local cancer patients, one family at a time, and provide restaurant-prepared meals and financial assistance to those who need it during treatment.

Connie has also written a book called ‘How Connie Got Her Rack Back’, which Connie uses a lot of humor about her “adventure”. (like they say, laughter is the best medicine)

Connie has also created a fundraising cocktail event - The 4th Annual Get Your Rack Back Event. It will be on Saturday (June 6), from 6:30 p.m. until 12:00 a.m. at The Hilton Garden Inn located at 235 Hoosick Street in Troy. It will be a fun evening with plenty of great food, prizes, music and special guest, Comedienne Jill-Michele Melean (or ‘Jilly’), who will be hosting the silent auction. When you purchase a ticket (which is $90 dollars) you will be providing a meal to a cancer patient and his or her family.

You can hear our conversation about ‘Get Your Rack Back‘ on our public affairs show called Capital Region Sunday, which will air on 107.7 WGNA, Sunday May 31, from 6:10 a.m. to 6:20 a.m.
