There's a huge controversy brewing in advertising land over an emailed promotion from the J Crew Company hyping their new nail polish.  And a 5 year old is in the middle of it. This ad featured none other than the CEO of the company and her kid.  The boy had hot pink nail polish on, with the mother reacting thus:

J. Crew President Jenna Lyons laughs with son Beckett as she's quoted as saying: "Lucky for me I ended up with a boy whose favorite color is pink."

And now for the reaction to the reaction from Fox News and a noted psychologist,  Dr. Keith Ablow, who states that this is a "dramatic example of the way our culture is being encouraged to abandon all trappings of gender identity—when the outcome of such 'psychological sterilization' is not known," sniffs Ablow. "It is unwise to encourage little boys to play act like little girls."

I'll give you MY reaction to the reaction to this panicked reaction and then I'd love to hear yours.

A long long time ago, I remember a certain 4 year old boy who came to us one day and said "for my birthday, I want that Barbie Boat".  (Boy, is he gonna be mad that I put this in here!!).  But anyway, he was adamant that he wanted this.  So his granma bought it for him.  We all snickered a little bit,  but weren't "concerned" about it one bit.  He played with this thing for about 2 days and that was it.   Actually, I was upset that he didn't play with it more, as it cost alot!

I'm sure we could have panicked, told him "NO",  immediately calling  the psychiatrist right afterwards.  But we just let it go.

Believe me, I'm not saying we were these brilliant, forward thinking parents by any means.  But we just felt that there were alot more important things to worry about in the world than that!

The question here is this: Should she have put her own child in a national ad exclaiming  how proud she was of his color choice?  Will the boy be embarrassed later in life?  Is this really creating MASS GENDER confusion in the minds of children everywhere?  Another sign of Armegeddon??

I'm dying to see what Sean, Jeff and Casey think of this issue.  I wanted to mention this on the air.  (They don't know that I wrote this blog).  Can someone let them know?  And can you let me know how YOU feel on this?

The blogosphere is going crazy about this issue, so let's see if we can get our own blogosphere working!   (BTW, this morning, I'm wearing black shoes with white athletic sox-----OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
